Default Rep
Overview
Default Rep switches the selected component occurrence(s) back to the Default Design View Representation. Use it after visibility or appearance changes have left a component in an unexpected view state (for example, when nested visibility changes cause a component to fall back to the Primary view).
This command focuses on restoring the design view representation selection to Default. If you need a more aggressive cleanup (e.g., force everything visible and clear appearance overrides), use Default Rep Reset.
How It Works
- Prompts you to select component occurrence(s) in the assembly.
- For each selected occurrence, activates the Default design view representation for that component.
- Updates the document so the graphics reflect the selected representation.
Usage Instructions
- Open your assembly in Inventor.
- Click Default Rep in the Configure panel.
- Select the component occurrence(s) you want to restore.
- Repeat selection as needed (depending on command prompt flow).
Troubleshooting
- View did not change: Confirm you selected the intended component occurrence(s) and that they are not suppressed or read-only.
- Still looks “wrong” after switching to Default: Appearance overrides or visibility states may still be applied. Use Default Rep Reset.
- Overrides from a higher level: Some appearance/visibility settings can be driven from parent assemblies or representations; review settings at the appropriate level.
Examples
Restore a cluttered assembly view: Switch selected components back to Default after working in other design views.
Prepare for drawing creation: Ensure components are using their Default representation before generating views.
Standardize view state: Apply the Default representation consistently across selected components.
